Dermal Fillers

If you have a gummy smile, high lip line, an upside-down smile, or a puckered chin, dermal fillers can help you enhance your smile in a non-surgical way. Dermal fillers can smooth and relax your facial appearance to help you show off your best smile.

Made of hyaluronic acid, dermal fillers are smooth and injectable gels that work by adding volume to weak facial features and then stimulating collagen growth. First, the fillers plump and lift your skin to restore any collagen you have lost through aging. They also stimulate your body to start creating natural collagen which can help you restore and maintain your youthful appearance.

Dermal fillers are a minimally invasive procedure that can have amazing effects on your smile! They’re FDA approved and completely safe. It’s important to know there are a few risks just like any other procedure. The most common side effects include swelling and bruising which usually resolve themselves quickly.

Your dermal fillers results can last anywhere from six months to 18 months.

If you would like to learn more about enhancing your smile through the use of dermal fillers, please don’t hesitate to contact Dr. Grimshaw or Dr. Kuhn at (910) 692-4450 to learn more or to find out if you’re a good candidate. We may recommend other dental procedures to achieve the results you desire if dermal fillers are not the right option for you.

Botox Smile Enhancement

Kuhn Dental Associates is also proud to offer Botox treatments. One of our uses for Botox in dentistry is to enhance your smile. Botox is made of botulinum toxin which is a neurotoxin protein that temporarily paralyzes muscles. It’s traditionally used to reduce forehead wrinkles but has since grown in uses.

At Kuhn Dental Associates, we use Botox for smile enhancement. When we inject Botox around your mouth, it can reduce the appearance of smile lines by relaxing the muscles in your face that you use when you smile. With Botox, your smile will look smooth and flawless.

We can also use Botox to help with gummy smiles. Gummy smiles are most often caused by the upper lip rising higher than average to expose more of your gum tissue. With Botox injections, we can prevent your upper lip from overextending, and therefore hide your gummy smile.

Lastly, Botox can help reduce the appearance of smoker’s lines. These are the lines that appear around the lower and upper lip when you smile. These lines are most often caused by smoking but can also occur from puckering the lips, aging or exposure to the sun. Botox injections around the mouth can help relax your lip muscles and give you softer lips to reduce the appearance of these lines.

Therapeutic BOTOX for TMJ

Not only can Botox help improve your smile, but it can also offer many therapeutic solutions. If you suffer from TMJ pain, Botox might help you find the pain relief you’re searching for. When we inject Botox near your temporomandibular joint, it helps relax the overstrained jaw muscles causing you pain, headaches, and migraines. Botox may even prevent lock-jaw and tooth grinding.

Although Botox is an effective way to relieve TMJ pain, we prefer to use it alongside another TMJ treatment for long-term pain relief. To provide you with the best TMJ treatment plan for your personal condition, we first need to give you a thorough examination that utilizes advanced technology. Once we have an accurate diagnosis, we will provide you with an orthotic device to realign your bite until it’s comfortable. Using the orthotic alongside Botox injections can help you find permanent pain-relief.

The effects of Botox can last anywhere from 3 to 5 months.
