It’s unlikely that Aberdeen, NC will see a snowy holiday season, but it is possible for you to have a white Christmas一just not how you imagined. Instead of seeing snow blanket the town, you can look in the mirror and see a dazzling white smile instead. Just like you don’t want to see anything but white snow, you probably don’t want to see stains on your teeth. With our cosmetic dentists’ help at Kuhn Dental Associates, we can help you achieve a new type of white Christmas that you can enjoy for months to come.

Why Do Teeth Stain?

Snow starts out as white but if you throw some dirt on it, it will turn brown. Your teeth are similar. They’re porous which means they absorb anything they come into contact with like a sponge. Certain foods and drinks can cause tooth staining as well as habits like smoking. Your teeth might also become stained due to your genetics, from taking tetracycline antibiotics in the past, or from fluorosis.

The only way to prevent your teeth from becoming stained is to avoid the foods and drinks known to stain your teeth and avoid habits that might stain your teeth. It’s also helpful to brush and floss regularly and visit us for regular dental cleanings so we can remove surface stains.

In some cases, brushing, flossing and professional dental cleanings won’t be enough to maintain your white teeth. This is where professional teeth whitening comes into play.

What is Professional Teeth Whitening?

Professional teeth whitening is the process of making your teeth looking whiter with a product that has an active ingredient of hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide works as an oxidizing agent that breaks down and forms unstable free radicals that latch onto organic pigment molecules which creates a whitening effect. The concentration of the bleaching compound and the time it rests on the teeth determine how much it will whiten the teeth.

At Kuhn Dental Associates, we offer two types of professional teeth whitening options: in-office and take-home. Both options can whiten your teeth several shades and remove years of staining from your teeth using Zoom! whitening products.

In-Office Whitening

If you opt for teeth whitening at our Aberdeen dental office, we will start by looking at a shade guide to find your teeth before-shade. From there, we will help you choose what you want your after color to look like. We will then cover your gums to protect them from the bleaching agent and then apply the whitening gel to the front of your teeth. Lastly, we will place a special light that activates the whitening gel over your teeth and let it work its magic.

In just 45 minutes, your teeth will look significantly whiter.

Take-Home Whitening

If you would rather whiten your teeth in the comfort of your home, that’s definitely okay. We offer an easy to use take-home kit that provides you with the amazing results you can achieve in our office, but at home. The treatment takes longer to complete as it gradually whitens your teeth instead of all at once. Before we can send you home with a kit, we need to take impressions of your teeth so we can give you a custom whitening tray. At home, you will apply the whitening gel to the trays and then wear them to sleep every night for two weeks or until you reach your desired shade. We also offer a higher concentration gel that only requires you to leave it on for 30 minutes per day. In no time, you will have a smile as white as snow!

What’s Wrong With Over The Counter Whitening Products?

You might feel tempted to buy a whitening kit online just like you feel tempted to go play in fake snow. We’ll tell you what, they’re not the same thing. Over the counter whitening products can potentially damage your teeth or give you poor results. There’s no way to predict the outcome. There’s no way to come back from a damaged enamel.

When you opt for professional teeth whitening at our Aberdeen dental office, you’re not only receiving a safe treatment that won’t harm your teeth, you’re getting predictable results. Our cosmetic dentists are here to help you reach your goals. With our help, you can achieve a white smile with glistening results you won’t find with over the counter whitening products.
