BLEEDING GUMS?

Kuhn Dental Diabetes, Heart Disease, Mouth-Body Health

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DON’T TREAT BLEEDING GUMS?

Your mouth is the window to your body. Research says that periodontal disease, bleeding gums,  is linked to conditions like heart disease, diabetes, stroke and premature birth.  If you don’t treat periodontal disease, not only will you slowly lose all of your teeth, bu it may affect your health.

The connection between your gums and your body is inflammation.  Your bleeding gums are the result of inflammation.  Inflammation is involved in the plaque that can build up in arteries causing heart disease.

Gum disease and diabetes are closely tied.  If you have diabetes, you’re more likely to get gum disease and it’s harder to control you blood sugar when you have periodontal disease.

Treating your bleeding gums is important for overall health and to keep your teeth for a lifetime. Be sure to brush and floss daily.  It is also very important to see your dentist every 6 months for an exam and cleaning.
